i was thinking about maybe glock .45 or s&w but is it better to get a .38 so i can conceal it in an ankle holster
Each would be a fine choice, however I do not think that one can effectively compare the 2 calibers.
That would be tantamount to comparing a Lexus to a Chevy.
Obviously the .45 is going to give you the benefit of higher capacity and better ballistic performance.
Not that the .38 is a bad choice. As for carrying in an ankle holster, that is fine, but do you want you primary weapon to be that far away if you ever need it?
Why not consider the Glock 27? Compact size and the benefit of a .40. And it is very easily concealable in an ankle holster. I have been doing so for many years.
Just make sure you get a high quality ankle holster and not the chepaest thing on the shelf.
