What would you pick, paintball markers?
I used to own a Shocker SFT, I loved it to death, it was perfect, light weight, I played right tape and I could tuck in well with it and the all american stock barrel delivered every time. Im getting back into paintball, and wondering about this Shocker NXT, why its only $500, when I see the new DM9 is like, $1200? I have played with the DM8 when it came out and didn't really like it. Is the DM9 that much better, or is the Shocker NXT priced low? If you have shot both of these, tell me your opinion, ive read a few reviews, but I want to compare the two.
I've shot both dm's and shockers (well, the sft - nxt won't feel different, it's just got some updated parts), love them both. Love almost all spool-valve markers, really.
Anyway, Smart Parts decided to drop the price, partly for the consumer (new players) because the cost of paintball turns quite a few people away from it. But they also had an underlying reason, as they finally re-released the Impulse, which is gonna be closer in cost to other high ends like Dye & Eclipse (yet it's still cheaper, with an msrp of $999 instead of $1200+).
No paintball gun, in my opinion, is worth a grand or more, even if i love the gun. I will never spend more than $400-500, because that's really all they're worth. Because of that, i get most of my guns used.
Performance-wise, they're pretty similar. The DM9 is a little lighter, though, and has a couple neat features, like the eye pipe (easier to clean, basically) and an lpr (lets you fine-tune/tweak the pressure controlling the bolt). DM9 also has the more universal barrel threading (autococker) while Smart Parts has decided to have their own universal threading (nxt/ion). But if you loved the stock AA on your SFT, it's all good, as the Shockers still come with them.
I'm planning on getting an NXT to replace my SFT as well. I'd like another DM but i'm not a fan of the UL frames - they're too narrow for my hand.
