Muzzle break for Remington 770 (30-06)?
Where can I find a muzzle break for my Remington 770? It's a 30-06. I know the Barrett style is overkill, but damn it would look sweet. lol. I would prefer a clamp on since my barrel isn't threaded.
Threading your barrel for a muzzle brake is money well spent.
I threaded my Ruger 223 Remingotn Hawkeye for a suppressor. At the time I also got a muzzle brake to protect the threads. Using my match loads with the brake off it shoots 3/4" groups at 200 yards. With the suppressor on, it puts all the rounds in the same hole. With the muzzle brake on - is shoots tiny little shamrock groups that are under 1/2".
I have a 338 Win Mag with similar results. The muzzle break makes the groups 25% improved on that rifle. I shot that rifle for nearly 5 years without the muzzle brake until I tried out my buddies who put one on. I had that rifle into the gunsmith within 48 hours - the difference was night and day on both recoil and getting back on target quick.
A suppressor does an excellent job of preventing the expanding muzzle gas for giving your bullet a kick in the pants on it's way out the barrel. A muzzle brake also does an excellent job at this.
As a bonus - the muzzle break on a 30-06 is going to make it feel like a 243 Win. Good news for your shoulder - and - it will allow you to get back on target quicker if you need to send a fast second shot downrange.
Some muzzle brakes will help prevent the muzzle from rising. These will have no holes on the bottom.
Most gunsmiths will give you a huge discount on the cost of threading your barrel when you buy the muzzle brake form them.
Bottom line. Paying $75 to $125 for a muzzle brake and $35 labor to install it is money well spent. It will help your groups, improve you ablility to get a quick second shot off, and make your shoulder happy. This is the #1 modification you can do to your rifle that gets the most bang for the buck.
