I need tips for finishingmy green broke horse!!!???
Hey! I have a 4 y/o blue roan quarter horse gelding. He is 15.3 hh and I am 14 y/o! Im VERY experienced with horses, Ive ridden since i was 3 y/o...so don't tell me I need trainer's help! I just need some tips on how to finish him the correct way!! He already knows the Barrel/Pole patterns and has a great bend, but he still needs to know some of the leg cues and neck reining and stuff....where should i start? What so i do the first couple of days??
to teach leg cues and neck reining, you dont really need a professional..if you know what you are doing.
i'm guessing you run alot? since you do gaming? take a break for a few days and dont do the gaming pattern at all.
instead just work in the circle and work on the walk trot canter. when you ask him to turn in a circle or move towards something use your opposite leg to the direction your going (so he goes away from the pressure) while using your leg, use the reins too. and when he does what you want, praise him! to teach him to neck rein..when you are going to the right take your left rein and put it against his neck, while turning with the right. and same with the left. once you feel like he is responding with his neck, use less pressure on the turning rein, and eventually you will be able to hold the reins in one hand. teaching both of these takes time, so remember to be patient and not to rush. your horse will get used to and learn it in a matter of time. start working at the walk then move to the trot and then the canter (this should take time) so it would be best if you just work on the walk one day, trot the other, and then try the canter (depending how fast your horse gets it)
the key is repetition! you cant expect your horse to do it in one day, or even in one week.
good luck!
