BDU will going out of phase here soon (2011) So I want to at least get a set before the oh so long style is long forgotten. But I'm having a little trouble on what is allowed and isnt. I am currently at Sheppard AFB for tech school and I've seen a few permanent party personel wearing them with their green ABU issued style boots. Some look better than others, but before I leave here I plan on wearing my set. My question is this allowed within the operational Air Force's standards? When i go home on leave I plan on purchasing a part of black boots of course, but for the time being, will I be able to wear my ABU steel toe issued boots?
Don't waste your money on the BDU's unless you just want them for sentimental value. However, since you're at Tech School then I would guess you've never wore them and there is not sentimental value for you since you were issued the ABU at Basic. As for the boots, do not buy anything until you know for sure you can wear them. Wait until you get to your permanent duty station and find out what the commander will allow you to wear. With all the changes in the AFI Dress & Appearance you don't need to spend money on anything yet.
