What to do about my Mosin's bolt?
So, we where at the range today, and my Mosin's bolt never wanted to go down, when I tried to load one in the chamber. I would have to hit it repeatedly for it to flip down. It fired fine, got small groups, too! My problem though, is that bolt. Any ideas on how I can fix this?
I took a drill, with a cleaning rod/Brass brush dipped in oil combo to it, for a total of about a minute (Would stop after 15 seconds for it to cool down and more oil). Its not as bad, but you still have to hit the bolt for it to go down.
For those needing a laugh, when I was shooting, my mouth got a little to close to my thumb when I was shooting, and it hit me in the mouth. I learned that you should grip a rifle like a shotgun.
Well there are 2 things you can do. Scrub the chamber of the gun and boil the bolt. It works. You need to take the mosin bolt completley apart. Then get an old useless kettle or something (I have a couple old kettles where the teflon is coming off, can't make food in them anymore) and boil the parts in water. Then while hot take them out and wipe and dry them down then clean them with regular solvent and then oil.
If your still having issues you may have a burr in your chamber. Usually sticky bolt causes the bolt to be difficult to open after firing but your example happens as well.
