My local Walmart sells both popular 22LR rifles: Remington 597 (plastic camo stock) for $167, and Ruger 10/22 (wooden stock) for $197.
Which rifle supports a longer distance with good accuracy? Is it easy to install a scope on them? Do they require a bracket for the scope, I am told that none of them includes a bracket for the scope, so where do you get a bracket? Which rifle has a better reliability and durability?
well, Ruger has been specializing in small caliber arms for a long time now. There quality is extremely good for .22 rifles. Remington is a good gun manufacturer as well, but Ruger is better at building .22's. as far as the accuracy is concerned they would both probably be about the same. A friend of mine has the Remington 597 and the one problem they have is that the magazines they use are absolutely terrible, we could almost never go through a full clip with out it jamming, and this was on both the clips that it came with, as well as the replacement ones he bought, Ruger has an excellent magazine design which is what puts them ahead of everyone else when it comes to .22 autoloading rifles. A lot of scopes that you buy will come with their own mounts. on a .22 i wouldn't go crazy with the scope because they are only accurate for about 100 yards before they start to drop, so you can buy yourself a cheaper scope and be happy with it. if you spend more than $100 on a scope for it than i would say you spent too much. the point of a .22 is to be cheap and inexpensive to own.
