My Cheap Guns don't jam. His expensive ones do. Why is that?
California's Economy is in the toilet. People are selling everything they own for dirt cheap.
I have bought the following guns:
Bulgarian Makarov: $159 (With full flap holster, and extra clip!)
Astra 400 9mm Largo: $150 (With holster, extra clip, and zipper case)
Spanish Super Model B .38 Super: $250 ( came with five boxes of +p Hollowpoint Ammo, 4 extra clips, nylon holster).
None of these guns have jammed even once, despite being worn to pieces and most of the blue gone, and using used clips off the internet.
My friend has a Glock, a Sig Sauer, and a Smith and Wesson Automatic (this actually is an older gun, a Model 39 he got from his Dad who was an Illinois State Trooper. I have seen them all jam. More than once.
What gives?
Or is this just because I am cheap and only practice with cheap full metal jacket bullets, and he usually practises with expensive hollowpoints.
You have had several answers so far, Newell, and they are all right as far as they go.
Older guns that have been shot ARE worn-in, and that's a good thing.
Most semi-autos DO feed better with FMJ; it's what they are designed for. If you want to use a 'nasty' bullet in yours, try a TC (truncated-conical). This is what the Luger originally used (before the change-over in 1915/16) and it is reliable, accurate AND solid enough to 'make an impression'.
Finish has nothing to do with reliability.
Most of yours were designed for the military and military standards of reliability are the highest.
But there is one thing that nobody has mentioned: maintenance.
You have been in the military and, likely, proper and strict maintenance is second-nature to you. Most people, nowadays, haven't been in the military and like their guns like a modern AT weapon: fire and forget.
So yours get cleaned and lubricated and theirs get a quick wipedown.... and you see the results.
BTW, that Spanish Model B Super is one seriously nice gun. Take good care of that baby for sure.
Most important of all: have fun!
