I know that Marines are not allowed to bring their own personal firearms from home, eve though they can bring their own bladed weapons, i.e. knifes, tomahawks, ect. However, I always see soldiers with many different scopes, sights, slings, grenade launchers, and other attachments on their M16A2/A4 assault rifles. Are Marines allowed to purchase things like scopes and put them on their weapons or are these things issues... and if so, how is it determined who gets the tactical scope and who gets the M203?
For the most part you are allowed to customize it to whatever degree you wish. Its really more so up to your Commanding Officer. As far as a M203 is concearned, you need to have that MOS (military operational specialty) before they issue one of those. Also, some units are issued different gear then others so the variations you see are not out of personal choice. Most of the time.
