Rumors about Boot Camp being easy true?
I've heard a lot of shit about boot camp or basic training being easy nowadays. I am going into the Coast Guard as Maritime Enforcement Tactical Operator and my recruiter said there's a guaranteed chance I'll get deployed to Mexico, Somalia or somewhere similar, and I want to be challenged to my very core and beyond in boot camp. If I'm going to combat in ANY branch I want to know that I was brought to my limits, and then taught to shatter them. I don't want to know that they just up and decided to make boot camp easier so we could have more 'soldiers'. Is this stuff true, or is it just some typical media bullshit?
A lot of misconceptions here. You are not going into the Coast Guard as a "Maritime Enforcement Tactical Operator". You are going into the Coast Guard as a non-rate, who hopes to qualify for and attend the Maritime Enforcement Specialist A-school once you're both eligible and the list is open. If active duty, this likely won't happen 'til two years after boot camp. For reserves, it may happen faster, but still won't be right away.
A "guaranteed chance"? What's that mean exactly? There's a guaranteed chance the world will end tomorrow........by definition, "guarantee" and "chance" mean opposite things........to answer your question though, USCG units certainly can and do get deployed overseas, particularly the MSSTs, LEDETs or TACLETs that you're referring to.
Good luck!
