native English speakers (Angle-Saxons), is it the best course The American Accent Guide, 2nd Edition, A Compl?
Hi,I have learned (and still learning) English with this book, a couple of years ago I took an English course and this was the book I used in the course I took :
The American Accent Guide: A Complete and Comprehensive Course on the Pronunciation and Speaking Style of American English for Individuals of All Language Backgrounds
By M.S. Beverly A. Lujan (Speech-Language Pathologist)
Lingual Arts
Salt Lake City, Utah
It is a very good book because explains step-by-step how to produce all the sounds of English and important aspects like rhythm and intonation.
The voices of the people in the CDs are from native English speakers (Angle-Saxons).
I think this is very important because a person of German, Dutch, Scottish, etc. are not natives, a native English speaker must be someone with 100% ancestors from England.
So, do you think is this the best book to learn English pronunciation like a native English speaker?
Do you know any other excellent English pronunciation guide?
The United States of America is made up of people from all over the world. One of my great grandparents immigrated here from Germany. My grandfather was born and raised in Michigan, as were my father and myself. That makes me American. Since I am from Michigan, which is part of the Mid-West section of the country, I have a Michigan variation of the Standard Midwestern American Accent. How I speak now is based on the location where I grew up and how people around me speak. It has nothing to do with my German ancestry.
If you like the book and it is working to help you learn American English, then continue using it, but get rid of the attitude that because someone's ancestors weren't from England that they aren't able to speak American English properly.
