I'm a little late in the game and will be trying to get a CCW. But I have a few questions.
Is it true that once someone gets a CCW it is actually illegal for them to open carry if they wish to do so? Is it true that you don't have to go through the NICS when buying a new gun? I was told you don't have to fill out a 4473 if you have a CCW but I doubt that considering how the ATF is with record keeping. Is it illegal if you conceal carry without a holster and carry with the gun put in your belt or pants?

You can still open carry.
In some states they no longer have to call into the NICS system if you have a CCWP. In NC for instance if someone has a concealed carry there is a portion on the inside of the form 4473 that says EXEMPT FROM NICS CHECK and then asks why. You put the documentation which in this case would be NCCP (North Carolina Concealed Permit) the issuing date and experation date as well as the permit number.
You do still have to fill out the 4473 but as said in some states you do not need it called in anymore.
You can carry concealed any way you wish.
