Hi guys. I've been trying to look up on kitchen-ware for my mom. Her cookware is all worn out (from making all my delicious meals) and I am trying to find some really good cookware for her. I've been looking up on Knives and have decided on the Shun damascus steel knives but I can't decide on good pots and pans. I was looking at the cast-iron cookware on Williams Sonoma (there's one around where I live) yeah...they're pretty expensive but I heard they last forever and get better the more they are used. So! I was just wondering if anyone here had any comments or iron cookware and how they perform. If they last forever I'm willing to throw down that much.

First off great choice on knives! I love my Shun chef knife.
As for cookware, what type of cooking does she do? I love my cast iron fry pan for frying chicken, making corn bread, bacon etc. However I would never use it for sauteing. It's also VERY heavy. So if you need flip, shake or toss food as it's cooking, you won't do it easily with cast iron.
I always say a good set of stainless pans with a copper base is great for regulating even heat. It's also easy to clean. Unlike cast iron where you never use soap or water or you ruin the surface. Cast iron should be cleaned with salt and a towel, then scrubbed. I use kosher salt as the consistency is perfect for a good scrub.
I've used many pans and a great starter set is actually something like Emerilware. It's not too expensive, holds up extremely well and has a very even cooking surface.
