Is the Remington 700 VTR .308 OK for deer hunting.?
I am very interested in this rifle. Light, rigid, great accuracy out of the box. I want to hunt from coyote to deer, and possibly elk, but am unsure of the "varmint" tag. I don't care to shoot prairie dogs, but enjoy the range.
The Remington 700 VTR is fine for deer and coyote....
Varmints? -- Maybe? - Maybe not.... The .308 isn't a real super flat shooting cartridge like a .223, 22-250 or .243.... Yes it can take small critters but if your scope is dialed in on the money at 200 yards you will miss if you don't know exactly how to make a scope change to a 350 yard shot -- I use a Mil-dot scope to compensate.....
Elk? - Not sure about that... There's no elk around here so I cant comment....
I have a Remington 700 VTR chambered in .308... Its accuracy is fairly decent and I haven't had a bit of trouble taking deer and coyote with this rifle..... My scope is a Nikon 4-12X50MM...... This works well to 300 yards....
Here is a brutally honest review of this rifle.... I suppose if your a Competition target shooter it may not be what you want but for Deer and other critters my experience with it is excellent.....

Here is the scope on mine.... I did have to purchase extra high scope rings to get it on the gun......
