i own and ar-15 and a red dot , i have no idea how 2 sight it in for coyote hunting and other predator hunts.help me out
To zero your riflescope, Set your first target at about 25-yards. Shoot three shots from a solid rest, making sure you hold your red dot on the bullseye the same way each time. Note where the center of your 3-shot group is on the target. Check your scope's manual to determine how to adjust the red dot to bring the center of your group over toward the center of the bullseye. Repeat this stage as many times as necessary, until your group is centered about 1" high of the center of the bullseye.
Then, move your target out to 100 yards and repeat the process until your group is centered on the bullseye at this range.
You haven't mentioned which bullet weight you'll be shooting, and that is important for determining down-range trajectory. For whatever ammo you're using, you might adjust your zero so that the bullets group 2" above center at 100 yards. This should put you dead on at about 200-yds and about 1-1/2" low at 250-yds. This is a good medium-range trajectory for the .223 load. You are now zeroed.
If you decide to change bullet weights,or manufacturer you will have to refer to the ballistics table for that particular load to determine any differences in trajectory, and make the necessary adjustment to your zero.
