Blackhawk! Serpa Holster Rig questions heckler and koch p2000?
I have a heckler and koch p2000 and I am thinking about putting together a shoulder rig.
I have a black hawk holster but would like a left hand shoulder harness and a mag double mag carrier to distribute the weight. Are hk usp compact/p2000 magazines double or single stacked? Also is there a good place where I could buy the mag carrier and shoulder rig so that I don't have to pay shipping for two separate orders.
Also for the shoulder rig I am medium left handed.
The magazines are more of a stack-and-a-half, rather than a double. Nonetheless, they are wider than a single and the double stack mag pouches SHOULD provide the proper fit. However, I advise you to contact Blackhawk! directly for a definitive answer, provided you can't figure it out via the product webpage or through use of Google.
I learned long ago that in many gun-related purchases, going directly to the source for purchasing can save you a lot of time and heartache. When dealing with something as specific as your desires-- left handed, shoulder rig, double mag carrier, concerns about what exact product to buy-- it's almost certain your best bet is going straight to Blackhawk.
I will however offer you a bit of advice in terms of your overall decision. Shoulder rigs fit a very specific niche, and in most cases, are not the best option. Realistically speaking, unless your concealment needs can ONLY be met by a shoulder holster, some kind of belt set up is going to be a better choice for you.
Aside from the concealment factor, there's really no benefit to this method of carry. Based on the intrinsic design, you flag everyone/everything to your rear every time you carry the pistol. During your drawstroke, you will also flag yourself and everything along the arc from your support side to the target. The drawstroke itself is not easy and will require training on your end to become efficient, and the retention options for most shoulder holsters are not easy to work with your hand in such an awkward position.
I am a big fan of the Serpa, despite some bad press it got early on. Although I have seen it used in a chest mounted, hybrid crossdraw scenario, I would advise you to rethink its viability in a shoulder rig. Standard thumb flap-and-snap retention systems, as found in the Galco line of shoulder rigs, are much better suited to this purpose.
