I am just trying to pick my first duck call. I'm pretty new to duck hunting, been deer and turkey hunting all my life. Also been pheasant and quail hunting lots too. After reading several reviews and listening to sound bites from several different calls i've kind of narrowed it down to the RNT QuackHead Double Stacker or the Buck Gardner Double Nasty II. I know i should get a double reed since i'm just starting out. Does anyone have any experience with these calls or have any other suggestions for me? Any information would be appreciated.
Also what should i saw while doing a basic quack? i've heard to say "hut" is that good advice?
Okay, you are right about the double reed. You will have a much easier time learning with one of those. I would suggest not investing much over $30 - $40 dollars in your first call. Just get a standard call; what you have listed is fine. I am 16 and I learned how to call when i was about 10 and I'm a pro now. My dad is a skilled duck-caller and he taught me to start with just "quack", but then bring it up from your diaphragm which will give you a much more natural sound. Eventually, you will take away the "kuh" sound from the "q" and you will be breathing...not saying a "whiiiiick" or a whaaack" Also, dont forget the chuckles which is a simple "chuga-chuga-chuga". You will build skill and be able to swing ducks in no time. Hope this helps!
