homemade casting resins or materials?
I have a few fishing lure designs I have made molds for. I need to pour them out of something durable that I can either make myself or buy at a local store. I don't want to buy those liquid resins or plastics online. Any ideas? Has to be somewhat durable.
depends on you're location . wal mart sells polyester resin and hardener in the automotive section . this is what most figurines and lots of 'resin' products are madee from. make sure to coat your mold cavity with turtle wax , or you will have a solid block....you can use cut up fiberglass to strengthen the lure, which should be right above the resin.
this is a very basic outline , but if all you need is pourable casting , this is pretty much the easiest. this is what boat hulls, car bodies , and stereo enclosures are often made of,its strong.

SN...you can also find these supplies @ auto parts stores.
the resin will bond PERMANENTLY with; wood, metals , fabric , etc.
WILL NOT bond plastic unless you research the ways. some polymer will bond, but not well.
also; wear a mask when sanding.
and seal you're lures before and after paint , fiberglass stinks.
ps.ps...mold you're hook eyelets into The lures , they will be way better than screwed in, Fiberglass doesn't like screws...it will hold an eyelet just by the chemical bonding process.
