My dog is loosing his hair and his skin is turning black w/ scabs. I know he is itching alot and has fleas. We have tried everything and can't get rid of the fleas!!!! So, this is a 3 part question.
1) How do we get rid of the fleas? Here is what we have tried so far: Frontline have been using nonstop for years, dips, powders, sprays
2) Is this a bigger problem than just fleas. When I use Hot Spot treatment it goes away, but always comes back eventualy.
3) Why is his skin turning black? It's only where the fur is falling or has fallen out.
The fleas are really bad this year. If you have carpet, you can try putting salt down. You only need a light dusting of salt. It will dry out the fleas. You leave it for a couple of days and then vacuum. Vacuum a lot !!!! If you have a yard then you need to treat that as well. Ask your vet how often you can apply the flea treatment. Last year we had to apply like every two weeks (frontline). I have a dog who has a really bad allergy problem and because of all the scratching he has lost fur on his underbelly and the skin is black. We have him on an allergy med for that purpose. We got it from the vet. We also use a hot spot treatment everyday. The allergy meds really help with the scratching.
