While I agree that everyone is entitled to an opinion, and they are allowed to voice it to others, it really irks me the way animal rights groups seem to preach and harass others. If you want wear something, you have right to wear it and not be harassed for your choice.
From a personal stand point I do agree most anti fur people have limited understanding / knowledge about animals, are often ignorant to the real facts. Most animal rights groups seem to use bad examples (i.e. most of the footage is from China), or are staged; thus not representing how the fur industry works.
What so many people forget is that most fur bearing animals need to be kept in much better conditions than any meat/dairy animal in order to produce a quality coat because the fur is a good reflection of the animal's overall wellbeing. Likewise people forget that it's in the farmers interest to make use of the remaining by-products, such as use meat for pet food, oils / fats for cosmetics products such as lipstick etc. As a result waste is minimized and I can't see how fur is any different from leather really, except in this case the meat is the by product and the skin is the main product. As long as animals are well looked after I don't have an issue.
I did a lot of research before I brought my first furs (I now have a nice collection of men's furs, mostly leather coats with fur linings, and a couple of blankets) because I wanted to ensure that I was buying something reputable. I just ignore people on the very rare occasions I have stupid comments. I'm sorry that you are not in the same position to.
People also forget that faux fur is in fact very bad compared to the real thing. It's made from oil / plastic based materials, doesn't recycle very well, and when it finally breaks down it will degrade many harmful toxins. Many are unaware of the huge problem this has created with marine life (See: http://www.bestlifeonline.com/cms/publish/health-fitness/Our_oceans_are_turning_into_plastic_are_we_2_printer.shtml). Real fur is renewable and does not have these issues, provided the animals are utilized in humane and resourceful way that
People who eat meat or wear leather who disagree with wearing fur in my eyes are very hypocritical, given that most meat is raised in far worst conditions. However if one makes the choice not to wear fur and is a vegan that I fully respect their opinion and dedication. But at the end of the day whichever stance you take on the topic, there is no right or wrong answer and everyone has the right to make their own opinion, and voice it provided it's done in a constructive, well-reasoned manner.
