Does the use of powerballs pose an effective way of increasing arm strength?

Recently at my gym/ health club I have seen an increasing number of members using powerballs, while doing cardiovascular activities and during periods where they are not exerting themselves.

Now I religiously do weights two or three times a week, I am an 18 year old male, My height is 6,1 and I weigh around 14 stone/ 90kg/ 190 lbs, I would say I am fairly well built. I wanted to know whether it is worthwhile employing the use of a powerball, in between workouts or while I am relaxing as a form of increasing of general arm and wrist strength, and whether it is a useful strenuous exercise tool, or is just a glorified wrist hand grip/ fancy extra that isn't all that useful.

It's pretty useful if you cannot find time to visit the gym regularly, but in terms of using it as a piece of training equipment it isn't that useful. It is just something to employ while sitting around or for recreation.
