So I own a shotgun and I live in Nevada... Me and my friends go shooting all the time... Was planning on getting a trigger lock for it since we now have a younging in the house... Too high for him to reach it either way but was just wondering one thing about getting a trigger lock...
My friend told me that even though if you get a trigger lock that if my shotgun were loaded and all, you can pull the lock back and the beam going through the lock and pull the trigger itself?
I know i know, don't have it loaded, wouldn't. i'm just wondering from any pro that can answer it with confidence... Thanks...
Trigger locks are accidents waiting to happen and they do nothing to prevent theft. A cable lock is at least safer. If you only have the one gun, a small locking cabinet you can attach to a wall would be better. If you have more than one, consider a gun safe. Keep any keys on your person. Keep spares off the premises.
Never underestimate the curiosity and determination/persistence of a small child. They have lots of time on their hands and get into all kinds of odd places. They are close observers of the people around them. They will find keys hidden away in drawers and boxes. They will try all possible combinations on some types of locks (e.g., three wheel combination locks -- sometimes used on trigger locks -- only have 1000 possible combinations). Plan your security accordingly.
