I have 5/8 in.steel and was wondering how would o make a knife out of it?
The steel is very high quality carbon steel and cannot even be scratched with a file. the steel is 5/8 in. thick and by 4 in wide and was wondering what would be the best way to cut out the design for my knife.
Heat it to cherry red and beat it on an anvil, with a good smooth hammer until you have your desired thickness,then cut the top part of the blade to desired length and width.Then reheat and repeat process to make your cutting edge,constantly flipping your blade to have an even edge, then place in cool water to temper,repeat process until you have the desired edge, and dip again, to temper. Sounds complicated ,but its not,you just need a little pratice...good luck
