hello. I own a 9mm s&W M&P. it's a full size pistol. I'm interested in using it for concealed carry, but don't know a good holster for this purpose (i'm new to the game) ... i've done lots of research and was directed towards the Black Hawk CQC holsters, which are Close Quarter Carry holsters..... ne suggestions? thanks.... to give u an idea, i am a 240 lb muscular male, during winter i'm wearing big coats, hoodies, etc.... but during spring/ summer, i am a t-shirt and jeans guy. thanks
Look on the Galco website for the new version of the "deep cover" holster. It might go by another name now, but it is basically a stiff, leather in-the-pants holster, with a j-hook style belt clip. It is designed so that you can tuck the shirt in over the gun, or wear it inside the waist band, on the outside of the shirt, if you're using a jacket to conceal. It's a great holster setup, and will set you back probably $55-60.
For a versatile alternative, in the $38 range, look at a DeSantis belly band. This is about a 4" elastic band, with a holster stitched in between the plies, and a tear-off retention strap. They advertise them above the navel, but you can wrap it around your waist, the top of the band being at the top of your pants, and the gun would sit in the same spot as it would in an ordinary belt holster. Then your belt, or the drawstring if you wear shorts/sweats, will help to cinch the gun into your body. This can be worn with casual or business clothing, and can allow for shirt-out or tucked-in carry in either mode. It also comes in very handy for jogging, etc., as it requires no belt and the gun doesn't slide back and forth over your sides.
With a muscular frame, a slightly baggy, non-tapered shirt will hang straight down from the shoulders and create a hollow over the gun, which will help to conceal the butt.
