So the angel Gabriel got to thinking. . .?
And he realized that he'd never actually seen a trumpet -- much less played one.
"How am I going to blow a trumpet to signal the end of the world if I don't know how?" he thought. "I'd better see if I can find a trumpet and start practicing."
He searched all over Heaven, and he found plenty of harps, but no trumpet. All that he could find was a ram's horn. When he put it to his lips, he was pleasantly surprised to find that it produced a very powerful tone, and he couldn't wait to show off his newfound talent to God.
"Listen to this, Lord!" Gabriel grinned, and once again, the sound of the ram's horn echoed all through Heaven. "Is this what you meant when you were talking about blowing a trumpet?"
"Sorry, Gabe, but that's not quite it, " God shook His head. "So close, and yet shofar."
