I tend to like lazy vacations, but sometimes I go with guys fishing and stuff, and there's usually one or two that seem more tense about getting out there and conquering two or three times a day than just relaxing and possibly just sitting around the cabin. They seem to judge those that hang back and those that tell them "relax, we're on vacation."
What's up with this and how to deal with it?
Maybe it's the "I am the male, so I am supposed to hunt meat and provide" mentality flaring up. Or maybe it's that guys whose days are usually filled with meetings, going to the gym, etc. just don't know how to relax. The best way to deal with it might be ahead of time. You could take the person aside and say, "Look, we're considering this vacation to be our chance to get away and relax; really take it easy. We don't have a big agenda and may spend time just sitting around the cabin. If that doesn't sound like a fun time to you, you might want to consider getting a different cabin, or taking a separate vacation." Good luck.
