So I found this really old can of polyurethane in my basement and cracked it open, there was a hard layer on the top of it so I could only assume air got up in there and hardened that top layer, so I got my knife and peeled away the top layer, after stirring for a good 10 mins to be safe I applied one layer to my piece of wood. The back of the can says touchable after 3 hrs, totally dry @ 8 (or @ 8 hours apply another layer) its been 2 days now and its still gooey and not hard, what should I do? try to sand it off and redo it with a new can?
- I was thinking about putting it in the oven for a little while to see if that would speed up the drying process.
Right now its 65 out, and was roughly that temp when I did it.
Its a clear gloss poly, not any specific color of paint, I used it on the stock / forend of my gun
first do not put the wood in the oven, vapor fumes will cause a fire. let the wood dry, possibly use a small fan to spped drying - best of luck
