Binocular light gathering compared to telescope?
If I got a pair of binoculars with 100mm lens would that equate, for light-gathering purposes to a 200mm telescope or even greater given the surface area? I was debating whether or not to get a pair of 100mm binoculars for general deep-sky viewing or a 150 mm telescope. I like the fact that the binoculars are small, use both eyes and are just easier. The only downside, of course, is the lack of high magnification viewing. How would the light-collecting ability stack up to the telescope? What would be the better choice?
No, however binoviewers mounted on a telescope give a "more" 3D type view.
