My friends and I have BB gun battles now.
Our bb's are plastic, and they only sting when they hit you. about 200 fps or less. It is quite safe, except if it hits you in the eye.
My friends say it never happened, but Im not risking my eyes.
I was wondering what types of eye protection I should use.
I used swimming goggles yeterday as a sub, but they kept fogging up.
My friends use their glasses, so i guess they are safe.
What sort of eye protection should I have? (i am looking at things off ebay and looking for something $10 or less)
1. will the safety goggles we use in Tech class be good enough?
2. do the metal mesh face masks make it hard to see at night?
3. do the plastic safety glasses and plastic eye mask fog up?
1. Although safety googles will hold up against low velocities, I would not use them if better eye protection is available. Glasses and sun glasses don't cut it either. They will crack at 200fps at close ranges.
2. metal mesh face mask are ok. they are safe for the most part but some bb's can break on the mesh on impact sending small fragments into the eye, but this is very rare. i have never seen that happen.
3. Occasionally they do fog up. Use anti fog lenses on paintball masks if possible. Also wearing a sweatband or bandana on your forehead will help stop some of the fogging. I would recommend ordinary shooting glasses because of their durability and price if you can't afford a paintball mask.
