Ruger 10/22 scope/mount advice?
I'm new to guns in general and I'm trying to find a mount that will fit my Ruger 10/22 carbine with these rings:
Millett Smooth Steel Angle-Loc Windage Adjustable Ring, 1-Inch - Medium (Fits Weaver to 9 Base)
to go with this scope:
Bushnell Banner Dusk & Dawn 3-9x40 Riflescope w/3.3 Eye Relief
I realize this is probably a stupid question but I'd rather ask it before it's purchased and not have to deal with returns. Can anyone tell me a good base that will go well with these rings?
Also any advice or opinions on the scope would be appreciated. I'm trying to keep it under $100 dollars. This one had some decent reviews. I tried to post the address to both the scope and the rings but obviously Yahoo! won't let me. But they are both on Amazon if you need to see what they are.
Thanks in advance!
From a few things I've read I was under the impression that you have to buy a separate one, or that the one that came with the gun was not great.
MidwayUSA.com has good choices on bases for the 10/22. With all its popularity, there should be several choices - just read the reviews and pick the one you like. Since its only a .22, it won't matter whether the base is steel or aluminum, so don't worry about that. But like someone else said - you have standard size rings so you'll need a full size base, not the 7/8" rail that came with the rifle. When it comes to scope - I'm sure others will disagree - but I really don't like anything from Bushnell. In my lifetime of shooting, the recoil of my 243Win. broke a lens inside a Bushnell scope, another 3-9-50 Bushnell I put on a 300Mag was cloudy from Day 1, and I've heard others complain about Bushnell quality, like not holding zero. So if you want a scope you have to re-zero every time you bump it on something - go ahead with this Bushnell Banner. Also, I wouldn't recommend a 3-9 for a .22 rifle. Just a little too big for the .22 and the standard carbine barrel. A much better choice would be the Nikon 2-7x32. And as much as I hate Wal-mart, it is pretty cheap there at around $120. I have this scope on my .44 Marlin lever-gun and its held zero for three years so far with no problems.
