How would you conduct a one-man ambush?
It would seem a little hard I'm sure, but how would you take down a potential 2-4 man patrol? Flat ground, ideal locations are very minimal. Any suggested bare-bones gear (no night-vision, laser sights)?
Ah yes, and this is with weapons. Pistols, rifles. No explosives ideally.
First and foremost the omission of explosives makes a one man ambush difficult. Ideally you could set up a standard ambush using these things and your chances would be pretty good. However, given the criteria that you have set, and without knowing the lay of the land wherever you are I would put the following suggestion:
An ambush must achieve 2 things, the first being surprise, and the second being the opportunity to destroy your enemy before they can react.
An ambush location must give you a "Killing Ground" this is the position in which your targets are exposed and for at least a second or two, totally within your field of fire.
For me, if I did not have the opportunity to set up a lure of some kind, I would need to have the targets in a fairly confined area. To be effective I would need to have a high velocity automatic assault type weapon. AK, etc.
Remember that the only realistic defence for the intended victims is to attack the source of fire or as we used to say, to fight through.
A professional ambush leaves nowhere for the enemy to go and for that reason, running and fighting towards the enemy guns is about all the chance you have.
set correctly the ambush would leave the enemy a chance to go back in the direction from which they had come ( by which time you would have positioned a machine gun), or to continue in the direction they were travelling, again where you would have positioned some heavy weaponry, staying where they were at the point of fire would not be an option. However, you seem to want to do it with just yourself so most of this is irrelevant.
get them into a room, walk in with a HV weapon and just hit them all at least once. You can then execute them one at a time if they are not already dead.
I still prefer the options with munitions, but you did ask the question.
