I'm currently looking to buy a good rifle in .308 and both of these look good, but the XCR costs abit more.
Can anyone list advantages or disadvantages between the both or explain which is the better, the 700 Police model has basicly the same features (i think) so should i just buy that and save a few $$$?
You are paying for the corrosion resistance and the fluted barrel when you buy the XCR. The barrel profile of the standard 700P is just fine for accuracy. The XCR barrel may be slightly lighter which would be its only advantage. The 700P is an excellent rifle and you are not giving up accuracy for the less money. They are commonly 1/2MOA accurate from the factory with the right ammo.
If you buy the 700P, you can take the $300 you will save and put it towards the purchase of your scope which should cost much more. It does not pay to purchase a precision rifle and put a cheap scope on it.
Another option which you did not list is the 700SPS Varmint rifle. It has the same barreled action as the 700P with a cheaper stock. The stock still has a decent feel to it with a wide front and dual sling swivel posts so that you can add a bipod. You are not giving up much in accuracy either. A 700SPS Varmint is good for 3/4MOA or better accuracy with good ammo. The only thing you would need to do to shrink your groups to the better accuracy of the 700P is to change the stock. The bedding and stiffness of the Varmint stock is no where near that of the 700P.
The 700SPS will save you another $300 over the XCR. This gives you a total of $600 savings and a nice chunk of change for or towards your scope.
