I shoot both indoor and outdoors and so far i haven't experienced any hearing loss but i'm conserned about my hearing throughout the years. I shoot 2 to 3 times a month and was wondering if doubling up on hearing protection is necessary. I own a 9mm, .223, and a 12 gauge. Normally i'll shoot the .223 and 12 gauge outdoors and the 9mm at my town's indoor range. When i shoot indoors i use earmuffs and when i'm outdoors i use ear plugs. I guess it wouldn't hurt to use both but it seems like it would be a nuisance if it isn't necessary. Can anyone offer me insight?
After a lifetime of shooting, including the use of sub standard hearing protection from way back when, and hunting with no hearing protection, I am faced with sever loss of hearing, and tinnitus to a very large degree. Wear protection, wear double protection, wear the best hearing protection you can get. Although too late for most of my hearing, I know wear a pair of ear plugs custom fit to my ears (sold at many guns hows) AND muffs over those. Wish I had started doing that many years ago.
