How do I know if my Mossberg 500 Cruiser is pre-2008?
I need to know this because I'm ordering a forend grip to replace the stock one. I intend on installing a folding foregrip. I noticed it says: THE TRI-RAIL FOREARM IS FOR MOSSBERG 500/590 SERIES (12) GAUGE PRE-2008 PRODUCTION. THE TRI-RAIL FOREARM WILL NOT FIT 500A OR OTHERS WITH 6.75" SLIDES OR MAVERICK 88 STYLE FOREARMS
Unscrew the large round nut that's holding the forearm on. That's the large round one AROUND the magazine tube with the two notches. Pull the forearm plastic or wood off. Measure the forearm slide tube, the steel tube the forearm was mounted onto with that round nut, and see how long it is. It has to be 7 5/8" from the very end of the threads to the very base edge of the collar. The entire length. If it's 7 5/8", you're good to go. If it's 6 5/8" (not 6 3/4" as you quoted) or if there's no slide tube at all (the Maverick 88) then you'll need to buy another tube to fit the forearm you want.
