Hi, I have the Kahr MK9. It has the 3 dot sight. Within 7 Yards, I hit bullseye everytime. (very accurate) From ~12 yards out and further, however, my shots are always at least 12 inches too low...Even if I hold the front (middle dot) higher then the other 2 dots (rear). Why are my hits lower at longer ranges? I could aim 12 inches higher at longer ranges but that doesn't seem to be the right thing to do. BTW The pistol is on the small side, i don't get a sold grip with my pinky.
Also, I hold the gun very tight, pushing forward with my right hand and pulling back with left hand. thanks if you can offer any advice to improve my shooting!!!!!
hi, I'm not jerking the trigger..i slowly... slowly pull it back until it fires.. is that the right way?
I think everyone missed that you were using the dots for target shooting, which is not what they are designed for. The dots are there to allow you to quickly pick up you sights in a low light defensive situation.
First off in handgun shooting, especially with a short barrel, small mistakes become huge mistakes the farther you shoot. I believe that you are anticipating recoil, which is the number one cause for shooting low. It is a habit that is hard to spot on yourself. That is why one answerer mention dummy rounds. You see with a revolver you just leave a couple of chambers loaded with fired brass and you'll spot the mistake. What it amounts to is pushing slightly on the weapon when it discharges to eat up some of the recoil.
You may be holding your sights high at 7 yards and putting them in the bullseye, but at 12 yards it starts going under the target, because you're anticipating and you probably have changed you sight picture slightly.
To see if I am wrong, forget the dots. Go to conventional sight picture, which is top of front sight blade centered in the rear sight opening. Set the top of sight on the center of bullseye at 7 yards and see where it hits, and do the same at 12 yards. Let the weapon discharge be a surprise, avoid pushing on the weapon, let it set firmly in your grip with no forward or backward pull. If you find you're shooting high, aim at the bottom of the bullseye (6 o'clock hold) as some pistols are set up for that sight picture.
You should have no noticable difference at 7 yards and 12 years. Good luck.
