I'm trying to get into rifle cartridge reloading so i'm learning about the components needed for it.One thing i got lost at was what's the difference between Pacesetter Die,Delux rifle 3-die set & Crimp die,would u please write me about it,& if i buy a deluxe rifle 3- die set what dies are included in it and why are other needed for?How to choose the right powder for the rifle(.22 Hornet,30-06,7mm Rem Mag)Thank you.
The new Lee Pacesetter Dies include full length size die, bullet seater die and the Lee factory crimp die as well as a shell holder, powder dipper, load data/instruction sheet in a storage case. Basically the die set you need to start reloading a rifle cartridge. As for the powder dipper, I'd much rather always use a powder scale and know the weight of the charge I'm using.
The Deluxe Rifle Sizing Die set includes both a Collet (neck) sizing die and a full length sizing die, bullet seater, but no crimp die. Collet (neck) sizing is not recommended for any action except a bolt, using brass fired from that rifle. Even neck sizing you will still need to full length resize every so often.
The factory crimp die can be bought separate to add to the Deluxe Die set.
As for powder, even bullet weight, get your self a reloading manual or two (or three) one from a powder company and one from a bullet company is usually a good idea. From there you need to look at what velocities you want to push the bullet weight you want. From there you pick which powders will work for you. Remember to reduce by 10% and work up to max load watching for pressure signs along the way. You may run through two or three powders before you find a powder you and your riffle likes.
You can always ask a fellow reloader what powder he uses for a certain cartridge and use that as a starting place. NEVER, ever, take someone else's word on max load as TRUTH. Always double, triple check it against your reloading manuals.
