I was told take the caliber and multiply it by 100, for example .22 becomes 22" .30 becomes 30". Is this true? I saw 2 individuals at the range today with low end 22 autoloaders. One a Marlin 795, the other a Mossberg Plinkster 702. Neither probably cost more than $120, even with their junky 4x20 scopes. Both have 18" barrels. They were just hammering some 100 yard small bore targets (8" black) with hardly a miss. I'm putting a Winchester Wildcat bolt 22 with 3-7x32 scope through it's paces. This Russian rifle has a 21" barrel. The seller sighted it with a laser bore sight, yet I'm doing no better from the bench than the boys are doing off hand. I really expected more from this "mini-Mosin Nagant". I told the seller I'd think about it. I shot 50 rounds of Winchester Super-X 40 grain Plated Round Nose and wasn't impressed. Could it be the ammo? Could it be the gun? Could it be me? How come the shooters with the cheap rifles doing so well?
If probably is the gun, I mean no offense to anyone, but that "mini-nagant" could never keep up with even a shot out Winchester or Marlin .22. Especially a Marlin, they have a naturally high level of accuracy out of the box. Do yourself a favor my friend, I mean no offense to you, but if you want a real tack driver, sell that Russian S.O.B., and grab a Marlin model 60 .22 (it's semi auto too!), it's a real tack driver; mines almost 40 yrs. old with countless hundreds of thousands of shells through it, and is still as accurate as the day I bought it. From a bench with even a cheap scope it's scarily accurate out to 100 yds. (good for a .22 in any respect)
