I had an idea of first spraying down my rifle and pistol with high pressure water (like you do your car) first, then dry it with paper towels, and then applying the oils (rem oil, etc.). I want to do that so i can get all the initial gun and powder off first and reduce the workload later. Is that a safe way to clean your firearm ? It will be dried after the water and the oils applied so i don't see any problem of initial water contact. However, will the water cause any kind of rust, problems later on by getting into the cracks, bolts, etc ?
Or if anyone has a good idea how to quickly get all the initial gunk out quickly without using a whole can of Rem oil, etc. ? It costs a lot and the work takes a long time (especially with a whole rifle).
In the US Army garbage cans were set up with heating elements and the water was boiling hot, we disassembled our rifles and dipped them into the boiling water and they were really CLEAN. the water was at a rolling boil and as soon as the rifle parts were removed the heat dried them almost immediately. The only down side was the usual F***offs got a few burns. We now oiled an reassembled,all clean.That's the Army way,sometime it ain't so bad.Just do it the Army way.My rifle had so much cleaning that most of the blue was gone,it never rusted,God help me if it did. My Sarge was the best,and a friend too, but no rust.
