All optics have paralax. Good optics have less paralax than cheap optics. What paralax is, is when you are looking through your scope and you move your head and the cross hairs appear to move off the target without the scope actually moving. This is very pronounced in a cheap scope and almost not noticible in a good top of the line scope. The paralax dial is a means to adjust and minimize the paralax at a given distance. Just dial in the distance to the target and you will have pretty well compensated for paralax at that specific distance. A better means of dealing with paralax is to develop the habit of placing your cheek on the stock at EXACTLY THE SAME PLACE every time you shoot. This spot is known as your "weld spot". When your cheek is on the weld spot every time you bring your rifle up to your eye, you will minimize any inherant paralax that your scope may have. This takes lots and lots of practice to be able to do it the same every time. Once you have developed your own weld spot, you will find that you no longer need to mess with the paralax dial in order to overcome paralax error. A really big help is to buy a GOOD scope. Think Leupold. Of course a Swarovski would be nice but who has that kind of money?
