I have a pellet gun with a scpe and stuff when i was a kid but i'm about to buy a .22 ands not sure how it works I things about rings mounts bases and I'm an amateur so help me out and explain it the gun I am getting is savage Mk II G, Blue, Wood if you could tell me which method i would use to mount a scope
Looks like the Savage MK II comes with a set of weaver style bases on it, so find any style ring that is compatible with a weaver base and your scope and you'll be good to go, it is really just tightening some screws down. I suggest beeswax for an adhesive to keep the screws from backing out because it'll come out easier then thread lock types of products that are an actual adhesive. Use this one the screws for the base and any other screw on the rings. As for the scope itself, make sure you getting a good one, some say TASCO is good enough for a .22, sure if you just take it to the range and then put it back in its case, get at least a bushnell.
When you go to actually mount the scope, before tightening everything up, close your eyes with the rifle at rest, then pick the rifle up and shoulder it and hold it as if you are looking down your scope. Open your eyes once you have shouldered the firearm, look down the scope, it should be positioned so that when you look down it from this position you have a "full moon" or the view is full in the eye piece with no black showing around it. If you don't have this adjust the scope until you have it, then once that is done make sure the vertical hair in your cross hairs is in line with the bore of your rifle. Once you have achieved this, start tightening, double checking your field of view and the scope orientation as you tighten to make sure the act of tightening hasn't offset the scope at all.
