Reloading .300 savage ammunition?
I am starting to reload my own rounds, but i dont know if it is nessesary to crimp the rounds. I have heard either way. i have my eye on my sizing and seating die, but just wondering if really needed to get the crimping die. i hunt and do target shooting.

Nearly all reloading seating dies have a built in 'roll crimp'. I have never seen one that does not in my 35+ years of reloading.
You can only use a roll crimp on bullets with a cannulure. For bullets that do not have a cannulre - you need to use a taper crimp die. 30cal taper crimp dies are very common.
To crimp or not to crimp....... semi-auto rifles must have crimp - the bullet is really roughed up in feeding - and if the crimp is not present the projectile can be recessed into the case and cause an explosion.
Uncrimped bullets in a bolt action rifle are more accurate - but - you run the risk of having the unfired bullets in the well or magazine nudge forward during recoil and jamming the rifle. Not a big problem at the target range - a huge issue when hunting!!
A taper crimp die is allot more forgiving on cartridge case lenght than a roll crimp. You can use a taper crimp on both cannulure and non-cannuler bullets.
Bottom line. Always crimp your semi-auto. If you are an Olympic Class shooter - you may notice a difference between a crimped load and uncrimped load in your bolt rifle or rounds loaded individually. Most shooters don't. Crimped bullets will always be more reliable!
