can you tell me what gun best suits me.?
I'm a attorney I put criminals in jail that means they don't like me.I have had several threats and was concerned.I'm not to familiar with guns, I want a gun that is light weight, has good fire power, accurate, big magazine, small enough to put on a side holster, with a medium range.
I was thinking a Glock 17, or a Beretta, maybe a HK socom .45 not sure and has to be 9mm.
I'm sorry I put this in a worse catagory. some people have told me a 9mm wouldn't be strong enough to take somebody down. what would be another gun with a bigger bullet but light weight and easily concealed.
I have shot a gun before, also and have taken courses.
Might wanna ask this in the Hunting section next time. You'll get a better response there. This section (Other - outdoor recreation) is mostly where the kids who play airsoft hang out.
So ignore the others and listen to me, ok?
First off, going out and buying a gun without meeting the prerequisites is the wrong approach. A gun becomes a useless hunk of metal if you don't know how it works and you don't know how to shoot it.
What you need to do is sign up for a handgun course at a local shooting range. This will familiarize you with the function of a handgun. People who skip this are usually inexperienced, and end up getting hurt when they think that removing the magazine means the gun is empty (hint: it is NOT empty, there's still a round in the chamber).
Once you've done this, you'll need to go to a shooting range that rents guns, and try out several there. You're not going to know what a gun feels like until you've shot it and held it. Slimmer or smaller guns, in general, are usually easier for concealed carry, and most people tend to not find fullsize guns all that comfortable for carry. You've made some good choices there, except for the HK (a bit overpriced and overpowered for a first gun). If you're looking at the Beretta, I also recommend the PX4. It's polymer (hence lighter) and will fit your hand like a Beretta.
Once you've found a good gun that's light or comfortable enough for you to carry, you'll need to sign up for a concealed weapons permit class (depending on state), if you are a "shall-issue" state (see here: http://www.handgunlaw.us - if your state is purple or yellow, you're good to go). There are some states (again, click on your own) where a permit is not required.
After you've taken the class, get plenty of practice in, drawing and shooting (as long as it is allowed at your local shooting range), but be SAFE about it. Remember, finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot. Once you are comfortable at shooting your gun, and the waiting period for the permit has passed, then do some research on a holster that is comfortable.
That about does it, any other questions just direct to the "Hunting" section.
