Looking for info about my Ruger old style single six convertible?
My dad gave me his Ruger single six .22 convertible revolver. I don't know much about the gun except that he bought it in the mid 60's for $50. It's the first gun I ever shot and I don't want to sell it but I am interested in finding out when it was made, what it's worth and if the value would change if I re-blued it (it's pretty worn from being in a holster) and replaced the grips (the left side has a chunk of wood missing), The serial number starts with 463 and I would appreciate any info you could give me. I have both the standard and the magnum cylinders. Thanks so much, Debs
WOW!! Thank you so much for the info and advice. I do not plan to sell the gun nor to re-blue it. There is no warning on the barrel and I already knew about the gun firing if it is dropped. I have a new pair of grips on the way as well as a new case. I'm very excited to begin shooting at the range regularly.

The Rugers that do not have a warning stamped into the barrel are of slightly more interest to collectors and should not be re blued.
As far as the recall goes, first, the unmodified guns are no more dangerous than an original Colt Peacemaker, or the many replica Peacemakers that are still in production. It could fire if dropped backwards on the hammer, or forwards on the muzzle, but the way to work around that is to only load five rounds and have the empty chamber under the hammer. That is only for keeping the gun loaded at home, at the range you can load 6 if you keep the gun pointed down range.
Also your gun may have already been modified. The modification added a transfer bar, that can be seen moving up and down between the hammer and firing pin when the trigger is pulled.
The grips can be ordered from Ruger, download a manual for free , and the manual has the parts diagram in the back. They will ask for the serial number to make sure the grips will fit.
