Virginia Gun law is confusing?
I just turned 18 and I have always wanted a ww2 style bolt action rifle. I have looked up the gun laws in Virginia but they seem confusing. Why am I aloud to buy a rifle or shotgun but have to wait until I am 21 to buy a pistol? Am I allowed to buy a surplus military rifle? What do I need to do or get to buy a rifle?
The info I read also listed if you need a "permit" and it listed many options. I don't know if I read it right or not but it said I didn't need a "permit" for a rifle. Is that true? Does that mean I can just walk in a gun store right this very minute and buy a rifle?
The reason you have to be 21 to buy a pistol isn't Virginias fault ( I live in Chesapeake Va., howdy neighbor), it's a federal law that says 21 for handguns. 18 in virginia can get you any rifle. Bolt action surplus, or an AK47, any rifle and any shotgun.
