im looking for a tactical long range sniper rifle? for a decent price under $1000 what is the best? also would like to be able to use this for deer and zebra hunting.
As far as cartridge, go with 308 Winchester or if you feel the need for more, the 300 Winchester Magnum,,,both cartridges used by the military.
For the rifle, you can use the military standard Remington 700... a good model that a solider would appreciate is the Rem 700 P which can be found at www.remingtonle.com which is available in 308 Winchester.
Nice thing about the Remington 700P is you get an ok stock and can modify it over time as your budget and interest allows.
Another option beyond a Remington 700, would be a Savage target rifle. The savage is probably one of the most accurate out of the box production rifles. Stick to 308 Winchester
