Taxidermy Repair?
I have a Deer and a Rainbow Trout that I inhearited from my brother after he passed away. The Deer has a crack (split) under his eye and the trout has a crack across the top of the head. I was wondering the best way to repair these spots. Is there a repair kit or should they go back to a taxidermist.
For the Deer you can repair it yourself with some bondo and testors black paint...If the split is with in the eye socket. Carefully cut and dig out some of the old bondo, then make a couple VERY small hole in the old (don't go to deep) for the New bondo so it will hold together. Let it dry a day or two and paint with the blk paint. In older mounds the taxidermist used bondo as filler around the eye-sockets and nose cavity. After time and how the mount was stored (temp changes in the room) will cause the bondo to crack. This is very common in OLDER mounts.
If the crack is in the hide or eye-lid, take it to a good wildlife artist.
For the fish, if you dont' have an air brush take it to a wildlife artist.
A good Artist can restore you brothers mounts as good as new.
Good Luck!
