Use Rescue Knife

Use Rescue Knife
Can a Swiss Army Knife (Champ) be used to escape from a car?

I've got a Swiss Army Champ knife and I'm wondering if it can be used to escape from a car--for example, one that's fallen in water. I know there is a separate Rescue Kit knife that can be used for this, but I was hoping mine was capable of serving in an emergency. Always good to be prepared.

The tools I'm thinking of are the knives and saw for cutting through a seatbelt, and the weight of the tool itself for potentially breaking a window. Anyone know if this would work?

Yes it will work, you CAN cut a seatbelt with the knife blade if you keep it sharp. Breaking a car window requires a pointed object that you can press into the glass. This could be a knife blade, screwdriver or anything with a point. The pointed object should be pushed into the glass, then the whole window will shatter. The weight of the knife alone won't break it, you need to use one of the pointed tools. However a locking blade would work better for this because when you push the point of the blade into the glass the blade will try to fold up on your hand if it doesn't lock open.

A rescue knife has a serrated blade that cuts seatbelts a little easier, and a pointed end, sometimes spring loaded, to break windows.
